Affirmations

I usually cringe at affirmations and then I realized that they are silly to me because they are not personal to me. I read others but I have never worded my own. It is more powerful and more likely to stick when you word them yourself.

The best ones come to me when I least expect it. They usually get thrown around in my mind before something sticks. The key is to make it easy to remember and that word choice matters. You can make a pretty powerful impact in just a few words. My favorites are below. I might add more later..

I am not my dad or mother.

I am not my family

Or who they want me to be.

I am my own.

I am my own separate, whole person with my own choices.

I choose to live in the present.

I am here.

There is nothing to fear.

I trust the process and myself.

I am where I am supposed to be.

Let them be mad.

I can only control myself.

The past has shaped me but does not define me.

I am worth more than my body.

I embrace the unknown.

I am one with the universe

and the universe is one with me.

They help serve as a reminder, at least that's how it seems to work for me. I got the idea to do this while working in this book called The Shadow Work Journal by Keila Shaheen and I enjoy it so far. It will help you narrow down to what specific affirmations might be more beneficial. Or you can always look to music for ideas..

I know that you want to cry
But it's much more to life than dyin'
Over your past mistakes
And people who threw dirt on your name
