2020

Ah 2020.. What a wild ride it was.. So much happened that it is hard to remember everything. I know one thing for sure though that I am not the same person at the end of the year vs the beginning.. It is crazy what all can happen in a year, huh? I have dealt with a lot of mental health issues, as many have this year, but I honestly think/hope that many good things will come from that horrid year. Either you are going to let it spiral you downhill or you are going to rise above it.

I try to stay positive and look on the bright side. Sometimes it is hard. But reflecting back on 2020 as a whole, I feel like it has really shown us just how resilient we are. Just think about all the things that had to adapt and change with the virus and quarantine. I had to adapt to working from home, sharing a small office space with my husband who is on the phone all day, haha. I love working from home- it is so much more comfortable to me. I feel like it has done wonders for my mental health as well. Hopefully in the future I can continue but who knows.

Warning- I might get a little political on this post.. Or a lot (who knows). But somehow politics have gone into areas it should not, like science, civil rights, and healthcare.. Things that should not be used as a political scheme were used for just that. It was mind boggling to me. It seemed obvious to me but some weren't getting it or maybe they did but just cared more attacking the other side. It seems like when it comes to politics people lose themselves and forget to look at other perspectives. We constantly have to keep our biases in check. You..

Sometimes it seems like in politics it is really easy to get too caught up in proving the other side wrong and we lose sight of what is more important. Some legislation that would help many people does not get passed just because a democrat or republican put it through. Sometimes I blame it on our two-party system (its the truth at the moment unfortunately) because all one side has to do is discredit the other side and they get the win. Political ads and media around election time get crazy with allegations and stroking the 'us vs them' fire. And that is on both sides.

Honestly 2020 was the first year I ever actually kept up with current events/news/politics or even cared. I used to stay far away from anything politics. But many things that happened in 2020 opened my eyes to things I had not seen before. Maybe 2020 was the year I fully matured and grew up. Many people proved since 2021 started that they have did not do any maturing at all in 2020. In fact, instead of progressing it seemed like to me we regressed and stepped back in time. But that is just my opinion. 😄

2020 was the year I realized just how uncommon 'common' sense was in society.. Just when I think I have seen it all. I was getting so tired of all the lies and conspiracy theories thrown around. You know I have heard of some crazy things that people believe in, like the earth being flat and I laughed it off because of how far out it is. But if you get enough people believing in something, true or not, and it can be harmful. Enough people started believing that there was foul play happening this election, since before it was even election time Trump was speculating that it would happen, and some believed it enough to take matters into their own hands right into the Capital itself. I am still astounded by what happened.. But also not really surprised because I was afraid that something bad would happen for a while.. I just wasn't sure what it would be.

Recently was Holocaust Remembrance Day. It is the anniversary of the day when concentration camps were liberated. This is necessary day to observe because there are only so many people left who actually lived through the holocaust first-hand. Many of them share their stories with the public so the horrors are felt in the hopes it never happens again.. And yet there were some references made by the capitol mob that were anti-semantic or pro-Nazi.. Which was a harsh reminder to us all that the hate that led to the extermination of millions of Jews is still alive today. When it is left unchecked and, maybe not explicitly but implicitly encouraged, and by continuing giving it a platform hate will grow and grow until it comes to a head. I really think education as a whole needs to a overhaul because the next generations have got to do better than we are right now.. But I will have to save that for another post.. Unfortunately it seems like 2021 is shaping up to be another 2020-like year and I can only hope for the best. Stay sane out there ya'll..
